Carrington Beat: PC Steve Harding

PC Steven Harding has been a police officer for the last 26 years. He began his career in 1980 working from Gregory Boulevard police station, which covered the Hyson Green Flats, before working on the Broxtowe Estate.
He gradually moved north of the county, patrolling Hucknall, Mansfield and Sutton in Ashfield before becoming the beat manager for Carrington in November 2004.
He is married with five children. His eldest has since followed in his footsteps by joining Nottinghamshire Police and now works at Canning Circus police station.
PC Harding said: “The majority of my service was spent as a Crime Prevention Officer, followed by a long spell as a School Liaison Officer, working closely with young people. I also spent a recent spell seconded to the City Education department, working on the Truancy Team."
“Over the years my hobbies have included running the half marathon and cycling. I now however, prefer the more sedate pace of fishing and I am helping to run a fishing club for young people living on the Bestwood estate."
“Carrington has experienced a continuing problem with car crime and anti-social behaviour."
“While projects are in place to reduce both of these issues, I would ask people living, working or visiting Carrington to remove any items from view, particularly satellite navigation systems and laptops."
“It only takes a second for a thief to see an old coat, some loose change or even a plastic bag and break into a vehicle thinking that something valuable is inside."
“I want to get to know as many people within my beat area as possible. If I am known within the community, people are more likely to come forward with information as it increases trust and confidence."
“Working with tenants, residents and businesses, we can help rid Carrington of the few people who are committing crime here. By being vigilant, taking simple steps to protect property and involving young people in the community itself, we can make this area even safer.”
