- CCTV in Sherwood

Chief Constable Steve Green attended the Sherwood and Mapperley Park Neighbourhood Watch Association public meeting on Monday 5th March at 7:30pm. He addressed a packed room and was generous with his praise of Sherwood Neighbourhood Watch and the principles of Neighbourhood Watch itself. Referring to the new CCTV system that the Sherwood group have installed in the area, he commented that "Criminals commit crime because they know they can get away with it and CCTV works to close their opportunities." He concluded by praising the contribution that Sherwood Neighbourhood Watch has made towards community safety in Sherwood and ceremonially cutting a ribbon across a large plasma screen displaying several of the live cameras.

Chairman Mike Douglas gave an in-depth explanation of the system so far and explained the plans for expanding the system. He thanked the local Police, members of Area 5 committee, Councillor Brian Parbutt and staff from IT company: VISAV for their assistance in bringing the system to fruition. He also encouraged local residents to support any traders/shopkeepers in Sherwood that were prepared to join the scheme and contribute in a small way towards the systems running costs.

Association secretary Ivan Jackoby gave a well received plea for assistance in distributing April`s newsletter in the area and demonstrated some of the cheap but effective home safety devices that the Association will be selling soon.

Many residents and coordinators stayed at the end of the meeting to discuss local issues and enjoy the buffet
