- GENERAL HOME SECURITY TIPS:
- Have a good alarm fitted and make sure you get it serviced once a year to prevention false activation
- Fit mortise locks or bolts to all outside doors and locks to all downstairs or easily accessible windows.
- Don’t leave valuables, like your TV, laptop or DVD player, where people can see them through the window.
- Most burglars get in through a back door of window. Make it difficult for them by locking all side or back gates and adding trellis to the top of walls and fencing. Fit lights that come on at night to cover sides and back of your house.
- Immobilise is a nationwide database used exclusively by the police to search for serial numbers of a whole range of goods. Web registration is free and allows residents to record all property that is identified by serial number. Visit www.immobilise.com and register as many of your personal possessions as possible.
- Look to use DNA property marking systems such as smart water or ultra-violet pen on valuable items. It allows police to identify whereabouts the items have been stolen.
- Smartwater can be obtained from FOX electrical at Beeston at a small cost.
