KAGE, the Knife And Gun Education package has now been rolled out to all Beat Managers throughout Nottinghamshire Police.
KAGE was created by Pc Daz Corbett who in 2007 was the beat manager for Sherwood. During the April of 2007 a murder of a local teenager occurred resulting in the creation of an unofficial gun and knife learning package.
Pc Daz Corbett decided to address the issue of young people carrying weapons and began going into local secondary and primary schools talking about the dangers and responsibilites that we all have when it comes to weapons in our communities.
In 2008 Daz Corbett moved to the Top Valley area of Nottingham and soon realised that the issues around weapons were just as intense as they were in Sherwood. So he decided to make KAGE an official project for all schools in the Nottingham City area. Working with other agencies such as CrimeStoppers, Nottinghamshire Police and most importantly local head teachers, a large number of young people aged between 6 and 19 years have been spoken to and now know that it is illegal to carry BB guns in a public place and the laws around Knives, but more importantly what to do if they find a knife or gun and how to preserve the weapon until the police arrive. Since Janaury 2008, Pc Daz Corbett has spoken to over 2500 young people about the issues around Guns and Knives. If you would like any information about this project or the laws aroubnd BB guns and Knives then please email Pc Daz Corbett at
