The information reporting section of this website has been designed and built to provide residents of the area with a positive weapon against Anti Social Behaviour and other criminal activity.
|As the Police freely explain, resources such as Neighbourhood Wardens, Beat Managers and Response personnel are allocated to areas (or not) on the basis of numbers of incidents reported for an area in the past. If we log incidents here we have a record of the activity in the area and this information will assist us to lobby for a greater police presence in the future.
More importantly, no one knows your immediate area better than you, and now you have a facility with which you can be heard. In the past, many observations and pieces of intelligence from members of the public and concerned citizens have not been listened to. Many times as residents of the area, we have been aware of trouble brewing: gangs gathering and spoiling for trouble, con-men in the area, dodgy characters looking in car windows, people selling drugs, the list is endless. But, over the years, we have learnt that unless an incident is taking place at that moment, other issues take priority
The truth however is that the police intelligence department do want this information, they value it and have been fantastically supportive of the development of a system to collect this information confidentially. All reports made are stored safely and the local Safer Neighbourhood teams, Police intel units and your local coordinators are notified that information has been reported. When the authorised personnel log in and respond to your report you are notified by email.
In addition to this and thanks to a further commitment from the police, if you register on the system you will be given access to the police crime stats reports for your immediate area. A weekly report that will enable you to see exactly what crime has been reported in your street (no house numbers). This will enable you to take precautions against perhaps an increase in burglary or car theft or simply feel reassured that you have a downward crime trend in your area.
Why log incidents here?
Report all incidents
We know that on some occasions when Anti Social Behaviour occurs, it is not always possible to take the time to report an incident. It may be inconvenient or (because of worries about intimidation) impossible to report an incident by telephone or by going into the Sherwood Police Station. If you have internet access, this system is available twenty four hours a day for you to take the time to record as much information as you can remember regarding an incident. No pressure, simply record as much detail regarding the people involved, clothes, circumstances etc. You can also go back at any time and add to your observations if you remember something later.
What if I do not have Internet access all the time?
Even if you do not have internet access all the time, you can download a reporting form or collect some from the local Police Station, write the information down and hand it in. The Neighbourhood Watch coordinators will load the information in for you. If you would rather explain what happened and have someone else log the incident on the system, contact your local Neighbourhood Watch coordinator or pop into the local Police Station and staff there will load the incident into the system for you.
What happens next?
Once you have recorded an incident the Police can access this information immediately and at any time afterwards. The incident will be presented to any officers when performing a search for crimes, incidents or any suspicious activity in your area. When you are logged into the system you are able to review any incident you have recorded and be able to see if the information has been accessed or used by the police. You will also see various graphs and charts regarding incidents reported by anyone on your road/street and see a progress report regarding the number of incidents that have been investigated and/or have lead to arrests and/or convictions.
How do I register?
