    • Youth Service

What does Neighbourhood Watch do?
  • The Association is here to assist you to form and run your own Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.  We are a democratic, non political voluntary group and our remit is to:
  • Represent the concerns of local NW coordinators
  • Arrange public meetings to discuss ideas and concerns, get a picture of local crime and focus on specific problems
  • Work with the police to cut crime and the opportunities for crime
  • Help and reassure those who live in the area
  • Encourage neighbourliness and closer communities
4
Why start a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme?
  • Neighbourhood Watch schemes can be large or they might involve just half a dozen houses. It depends on the area and what people living there want. A scheme is generally led by a volunteer co-ordinator whose job is to get people working together and make sure things get done.  A scheme can help you to:
  • Represent the concerns of your neighbours
  • Build an active partnership with your neighbours and the Police
  • Work with the Association to focus on specific problems
  • Raise awareness about the opportunities for crime and current problems
  • Help and reassure those who live in the area and create a feeling of confidence and security.
  • Reduce burglaries, vandalism, graffiti, bullying and much more
5
Current Neighbourhood Watch Association Projects:
  • Gain formal access to up-to-the-minute crime information and distribute this to coordinators
  • Install and run a CCTV system in Sherwood shopping area
  • Design and build a web-based incident reporting system
  • Lobby various groups regarding the lack of youth facilities in the area
  • Keep a Contact Point in Sherwood and ensure we have a presence in the new one (The old Lloyds bank)
  • Encourage the take up of new NW schemes in the area
  • Join the City of Nottingham Neighbourhood Watch Council and ensure that Sherwood and Mapperley Park is represented
